The Weeklies – 30 July 2009
Welcome to this weeks instalment of the Excitador Weeklies, awards for unique contributions to the world of Driving.
The Award for “Person most likely to ruin Brawn GP’s Season” goes to: Michael Schumacher
The seven time world champion will spend the next few weeks training and proving his fitness in order to rejoin the Ferrari F1 team. Michael agreed to take over Felipe Massa’s car until the Brazilian recovers from his run-in with a spring during qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend. There’s no way he can win the championship with just 7 races left, but old Schuey never let a little thing like that dampen his enthusiasm. I’m sure the Ferrari mechanics are installing a nudge bar on Felipe’s car at this very moment.
The Award for “Producing a car that makes the Caparo T1 seem like a smart choice” goes to: the Tramontana R Edition

Advanced Design Tramontana builds just 12 of these babies a year (although there’s no word on how many they sell). Despite the marketing spiel that tells us it’s a cross between a fighter jet and an F1 car, the R Edition looks something like a Caterham kit built by someone who has a problem admitting when they’ve made a mistake. It joins the Caparo T1 in the illustrious ‘Formula One for the road’ segment. Well not so much joins as sidles up to. You see the Tramontana is more than twice the weight of the Caparo, giving it half the power to weight ratio, a far slower acceleration time and an almost identical top speed. And did I mention it costs more? It’s only saving grace may be that it hasn’t caught fire. Yet.
The Award for “Best idea for a theme park ever. EVER.” goes to: Ferrari

Ferrari World at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi is due to open in just one year. According to a recent press release it will be the biggest indoor theme park in the world, adorned by the biggest Ferrari emblem in the world. It will also house two roller coasters, one designed as two competing GT cars, and the other being a Formula One themed coaster that will, you guessed it, be the fastest rollercoaster in the world. In addition to the Grand Prix festivities there will be activities for young and old, 300 days of the year. Journalists and VIP’s will be given tours of the complex during The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November later this year. I wonder how I get an invitation.
